Just a thoughtLife Signs: Contemporary
without Compromise
For ALL
People
When Ahaz was King,
it says in Isaiah 7:14 that there would be the birth of the Messiah. It was prophesied that a virgin would
conceive and give birth to a baby boy who would be called Immanuel ("God with
us"). The greatest fulfillment of this
prophecy occurred when Jesus was born.
The Virgin Mary conceived and gave birth to a son who was called among
other things, "Immanuel."
For a woman to give
birth is a miracle. For a young, virgin
woman to give birth is both a miracle and a sign. Jesus' birth from a virgin was a sign of
God's promise that was told in Isaiah 7:14.
Then, during the reign of King Hezekiah, Isaiah again prophesied about
the coming of Christ (Isaiah 9:6-7).
These prophesy were fulfilled and are found in both Matthew 1:18-25 and
Luke 2:7.
Joseph, the man who
was to take Mary home as his wife had plans of divorcing her quietly, because
she was with child and he had no union with her. However, an angel of the Lord appeared to him
in a dream telling him not to divorce her and that what was inside her was from
the Lord. Joseph was from the City of
David; Bethlehem, and according to Luke 2:1-7, a decree from the Roman Emperor,
Caesar Augustus mandated that all go to the town out their birth to be registered.
During this time,
shepherds were in the fields tending to their sheep and were visited by angels
(Luke 2:10-14). The angels were the
messengers of Good News that would be for all people. This Good News from the angels was that a
Savior was born in the town of David (Luke 2:11). The shepherds were to be witnesses to what
they had seen and heard (Luke 2:17-18).
After a while, Magi
from the East came bearing gifts for the child.
They were astronomers. Studying
the movements of the stars, the Magi knew that the time had come for a King to
be born. They prepared their gifts and
set out for their journey to find this King by following a star. An appealing reality is that both
shepherds and the Magi were searching for this exhilarating news. Both of these groups - from the various
levels of status show that Christ was born for everyone (despite their status
in the world). John 3:16 is a beloved
verse that confirms that Jesus was and is for all people.
John 3:16 (New
International Version)
16"For
God so loved the world that He gave His
one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus is the promised Messiah, He
is our Creator, and we are liable to Him.
All He wants is to be Savior and Lord of our life. He wants to love us in unassuming ways, and
to have a personal, one-on-one relationship with us. The Gift that was given to us many years ago
by God is waiting to be opened.
Whose gift is it?
The celebration of Christmas is
here once again. This is the time of
year where malls are crowded with people who want to find that one or two
special gift(s) for someone. Some fail
to realize that the special gift was already given to them and is waiting to be
unwrapped.
Luke 2:6-8 (New
International Version)
6While they were there, the time
came for the baby to be born, 7and
she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.
She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was
no room for them in the inn.
The
Shepherds and the Angels 8And
there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their
flocks at night.
